About Us
The Women’s Support Project aims to raise awareness of the extent and effects of violence against women and children, and to support those affected by violence. Key themes in our work have been highlighting links between different forms of male violence and promoting an interagency response to the abuse of women and children. Our work is informed by a feminist analysis of male violence and an understanding of the links and overlaps between different forms of violence, discrimination and oppression.
The Project was established in 1983 and is a voluntary organisation recognised as a Scottish charity (SCO 21846)
Our main areas of work are:
- Support for women whose children have been sexually abused or exploited (on-line and by telephone)
- Raising awareness of the harm caused by commercial sexual exploitation and highlighting male demand as a root cause
- Multi-agency and in-house training service
- Public education
- Multi-agency and partnership working at local and national level
- Fundraising
Opening hours.
We work office hours, with some evening work. At the moment we are unable to advertise set opening hours for our telephone line, as a result of funding and staffing cuts. If you leave a message or email us we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Funding
We have various sources of funding. In 2011 - 2012 we are working with the Scottish Government Violence Against Women Team to support national training on violence against women. Our national work to challenge demand for commercial sexual exploitation also continues to be funded by the Scottish Government. We use grants from charitable trusts, donations from individuals, and fundraising, to fund our support work and specific areas of development work. To make a donation please visit our donate page.
