Womens Support Project

FGM and Health, Friday 27th April 2018

Health Scotland & the Women’s Support Project are holding a conference to consider mental, physical and sexual health issues for women living with FGM.

The programme will include speakers from the My Voice project, NHS GGC Psychological Trauma Service and Forward UK.

Workshops will be offered by Kenyan Women in Afrca Association, and by Health staff and Forward UK. Workshops will address issues such as working with African women using the DO NO HARM approach, responding in sexual health and maternal health services, and will highlight good practice in responding.

This event is aimed at people who already have a basic knowledge of FGM and priority will be given to those who are most likely to be engaging with girls and women affected by FGM and/or who have a role in raising awareness of and responding to FGM. This will include midwives, health visitors, GP’s, sexual health staff, counsellors, support and advocacy workers and community activists.

The conference will be held on Friday 27th April 2018, 9.30am – 4.00pm at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel, 36 Cambridge Street, Glasgow, G2 3HN

There is no charge for attending. Travel expenses are available to support people from communities in Scotland affected by FGM to attend.

If you wish to attend please request  an application from jan@womenssupportproject.org.uk

We will confirm whether you have a place by 11th April. If demand exceeds places available we may have to limit the number of people attending from each organisation or team.
