Scottish Women's Aid Conference

In anticipation of the commencement, on 1 April 2019, of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018, with the new offence of engaging in course of abusive behaviour, Scottish Women’s Aid’s 2019 conference will explore commonly held attitudes to domestic abuse, which victim-blame and perpetrator-excuse, identifying ways in which these attitudes shape agency intervention and lead to service- generated risks.

The conference will explore commonly held attitudes to domestic abuse which victim-blame and perpetrator-excuse, identifying ways in which these attitudes shape agency intervention and lead to ‘professional dangerousness’. The conference will offer a safe space for practitioners to reflect on their own attitudes and approaches and devise strategies to address service-generated risks.

Keynote speakers: Professor Amanda Robinson (University of Cardiff); Dani Garavelli (journalist) & Brenna Jessie (SWA), Dr Aoife Daly (University of Liverpool) & Roseanna Macdonald (SWA)
