Training
The Women’s Support Project is committed to raising awareness of violence against women and children and working to improve services available to survivors of abuse. We regularly organise interagency training workshops and information events.
We offer training programmes on a range of issues, for example:
* Domestic abuse and child protection * Child Sexual Abuse basic awareness * Sexual abuse and self injury * Increasing women's confidence * Rape and sexual assault basic awareness * Working with survivors of child sexual abuse * Raising awareness of the harm caused through prostitution * Responding to street prostitution * Men who abuse women partners
These workshops offer the following to participants:
Networking - opportunities to pass on information about your own work and to find out about services offered by other organisations.
Knowledge - increases workers' confidence in identifying and responding to violence and sexual abuse.
Resources - participants have access to our lending library and a chance to discuss recommended resources.
Information - up to date, relevant information on the extent of the problem and organisations available to help.
Who is our training for?
Workshops are attended by both qualified and unqualified workers across a range of statutory and voluntary agencies. They include those based in women's organisations and survivors' groups; drug and alcohol projects, mental health projects, and welfare and advice agencies; Social Work, health and education departments and the police. Our ‘basic awareness’ courses are open to those with little or no experience of working with issues of violence and sexual abuse. Others are aimed at those with more experience.
What is our approach?
Attention is given to the effects on workers and the need for support. We focus on the survivor’s perspective in understanding the effects of abuse and obstacles to getting help. A variety of methods are used, including small and large group discussion, group exercises, and videos.
